‘Water for Elephants’ starring Robert Pattinson – trailer review

Water for Elephants

Directed by: Francis Lawrence
Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson, Christoph Waltz
Rating: NR
Release Date: April 15, 2011

MY THOUGHTS: Okay, lemme get this outta the way first. Um… what?

Okay, glad I got that out of my system because I gotta say, after watching this trailer, I don’t have much of an idea of what I’m in for. I mean, sure, I get that Robert Pattinson thinks that Reese Witherspoon is hot, but is that really what I’m shelling 11 bucks out to watch? Because if I really found Reese Witherspoon that attractive (or appealing at all) I’m pretty sure my time would be better spent using Google Images.

In its defense, there’s the makings of a story buried somewhere in here. When movie trailers are constantly giving too much away, it’s nice to see a little subtlety, but you gotta give me something to work with here. Still, on a strictly visual level, Water for Elephants looks delightfully understated, witha similar feel to Tim Burton’s Big Fish. By the end of the trailer though, I couldn’t help but feel that my time might be better spent re-watching Big Fish. Water for Elephants might have more to offer than Reese Witherspoon worship and some charming set pieces, but this trailer doesn’t do much to showcase it.

i loved the trailer, but i read the book so i know what the storyline is about. it’s much more then what was shown. plus it was released that it was just a teaser trailer, so i’m sure the next one will show more of a storyline.

  2. al says:

oh.. come on.. You surely have an idea when alvin dove into the wreck of the titanic in Titanic. That much it. Though in WFE they did it with a car, a wheel chair and old Hal H. This movie will surely make its mark comes 2011.

  3. Alex says:

This is a TEASER trailer. Full trailer will be released later. I am sure you understand the meaning of “TEASER”. The casts is good, the director is good, the screen writer is good and the book is good. So I am positive about this film. As a fan of the book I am so excited. I will see this film disregarding any reviews. I like to make my own judgement. Because people have different tastes.

  4. If I understand correctly, a “teaser” is supposed to tease… are we at least together on that one?
What I’m saying is, and no offense to those who do want to see it, a teaser is supposed to ask you questions with answers that only the movie can provide. ‘Water for Elephants’ doesn’t do a great job of posing these questions and I can’t say I care too much about the answers, but that’s just my opinion.
    Thanks for reading

Gees! If you can’t be bothered to go to IMDB to read the summary, then why would you critique the teaser trailer? FYI, Christoph Waltz said he may have to give up his newly won Oscar to Rob, he is that good in this movie. Do some research. Use some common sense. People ahould stop judging Rob by Twilight, he is a really good actor, (Remember Me, How To Be, Harry Potter), judge him on the performance, not your preconceived idea of him.

Never ever understand people, what they wait from a trailer. The whole film? Anyway – I only see a trailer if I’m interested in a movie. And I’m interested in a film, when I made some research: about the story, the cast, even the book from what the film made… So… if the story don’t turn my interest, I don’t watch the trailer. This trailer for me shows what about the whole package in very beautiful pictures.
I think, You didn’t made your research, or you only want to snap Rob Pattinson and Reese Whiterspoon… Just one more thing. Not the actors are, who make the trailers. So you can speak about the director, the editor of the trailer, not about the actors.

  7. Leah says:

OK, first off, if you read the book, you will understand what the whole thing is about.

Now, to the actual trailer, Robert Pattinson just looks brooding once again in another movie. NOT COOL. I think we only saw him smile once?? I mean, I just hope that they don’t ruin the book because of this movie.

  8. Carlab says:

Clearly the person who wrote this review has no idea what he/she is talking about. How can you not want to see that movie just from watching the trailer! First of all, if I were to review something I would do my homework on the subject… read the damn book! It is one of my all time favorite books and many, many people share the same opinion. From the trailer it would appear they are staying true to the book which is important. I must admitt I thought Reese was an odd choice for the character Marlena but it would appear she is going to be good based on the trailer. Robert Pattinson is the perfect Jacob, I knew this before I even saw the trailer based on the character in the book and what I know of the actor. Waltz is a perfect choice as well. It is my most anticipated movie of the year.
