'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' starring Robert Pattinson - trailer review

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Directed by: David Slade Starring: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner Rating: NR Release Date: June 30, 2010

TRAILER SCORE: 4/10

MY THOUGHTS: Well, I guess it’s that time again. You know what they say, another year, another Twilight movie. Now, I can’t say that I follow the series closely (at all is perhaps a more accurate phase) but given the pop culture phenomenon, I feel like I’ve got a handle on this. This film looks like it returns to the premise of your average romantic drama where a girl can’t choose between two guys, one’s a vampire and the other is a werewolf. Now, fans of the series may protest my rating of the trailer, but let’s look at it from a non-Twi-hard perspective, shall we? I’ll give you that the visuals are pretty entertaining with lots of beautiful shots of dramatic landscapes, but aside from that, this trailer doesn’t have a lot going for it. Sure, it’s a continuation of a highly-successful series so I understand where people might disagree with me, but the writing? The music cues of the trailer alone don’t help, but “I’m gonna fight for you, till your heart stops beating”? It’s a nice sentiment, but creepy lines like that (that may appeal to the average Twilight fan) accompanied with poor delivery from the actors aren’t enough to get me to see the third in this seemingly never-ending series.
