MY THOUGHTS: Julia Roberts in an ode to the female midlife crisis. Realizing that she hasn’t been living her life as she’s wanted, she sets off to travel the globe to find herself. Granted, the plot is a little flat, but the story itself (of course, based on a true one) is a surprisingly inspiring one. Julia Roberts once again puts on her “troubled wife” look on to play the part. All in all, it’s nothing new for her or anyone really. We’ve all seen this kind of movie before, but what’s different about this picture? Well, for all you fans of “Glee” or the dearly departed “Nip/Tuck”, creator Ryan Murphy steps into the directing chair for this project. Having only directed several episodes of his own TV series and 2 movies (one made for TV), this seems like a departure for Murphy. For those of you who are just looking for any old reason to see Eat, Pray, Love I can’t give you much of one. The story itself looks kind of tired, and of course it’s based on someone’s memoirs (it feels a little Julie & Julia at moments), but the scenes of her trip look beautiful. Unless you're a fan of the book or a big Roberts or Murphy fan, this one looks more like a renter than anything else.
