Box Office Challenge: 'True Grit' 'Little Fockers' and 'TRON: Legacy'

Box Office Challenge

Hitting the screens this weekend ...

Another Year (Wed., limited) Blue Valentine (Limited)

TSR's complete Film Review Database

It's a slow week for new releases, what with being caught in all the holiday hubbub. Still, this is the time when predicted Oscar favorites Blue Valentine and Another Year have decided to rear their heads.

But the real question is, what does that mean for the box office this weekend? Honestly, I don't know if it will mean that much. I think True Grit has more of a shot at claiming number one this weekend after rave reviews and plenty of time for people to get sick of Ben Stiller.

Still, I don't think Little Fockers will fall far. it doesn't seem to have a lot of rewatchability so I think it'll take a distant second, but sadly second place nonetheless.

TRON: Legacy is once again gonna cash in on the 3D market and the holidays. What better way to keep in-laws and nephews distracted than show them pretty lights, 3D, and Daft Punk? I honestly can't think of a better way.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader is gonna be forced to share the 3D spotlight with TRON: Legacy but I'm not sure it'll be much of a contest. Narnia has been leaving people pretty disenchanted for a few weeks now and it might not have even made the top five this weekend if there were more new releases.

Finally, The Fighter has a better chance this weekend than it did before. Not only the critics and the Golden Globes, but this weekend may leave more "grown ups" (age 17 and up) with some free time and some interest.

Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order). Also guess how many millions the #1 movie will make.

It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.

My prediction for the weekend of Dec. 30 - Jan. 1, 2011 …

1. True Grit ($24 million )

2. Little Fockers

3. TRON: Legacy

4. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

5. The Fighter

So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
