TSRn: Anne Hathaway Nearing Deal for Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'

The Scorecard Review news

News: After winning an Oscar for Les Misérables, Anne Hathaway is reportedly nearing a deal to star in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. If the deal gets done, she’ll join Matthew McConaughey in the sci-fi adventure. The film is set to hit theaters and IMAX on November 7, 2014. Source: Deadline

Thoughts by TSR: Oh my, Interstellar keeps getting better and better. It’s still a year and a half until this hits theaters, but so far everything is sounding terrific. Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. first told us Matthew McConaughey had been offered the lead role (the actor later confirmed his casting in an interview with the Star Tribune). Now Deadline has heard that Anne Hathaway is nearing a deal to star alongside McConaughey. That has me very excited considering Hathaway was the runaway best part of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. I’d go as far as to say she delivered my favorite female performance in any of Nolan’s films (for those keeping score, Carrie-Anne Moss in Memento is a close runner-up). Obviously there are no big character details yet – this is Nolan we’re talking about – but Hathaway and McConaughey could make a great wormhole-jumping team.

Interstellar was originally to be directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Jonathan Nolan. Once Christopher Nolan got involved he added in some of his own ideas. It’s based on wormhole and time travel theories from Caltech’s Kip Thorne and “will depict a heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding.” That alone would be enough to have me looking forward to it, but my excitement goes up a notch when you throw in the Nolan brothers, Matthew McConaughey, and Anne Hathaway.
