Ticket sales through the roof for Michael Jackson documentary This Is It

We reported last week on the early release of the Michael Jackson documentary This Is It. Although the official release date is October 28, several theaters will host a first showing at 9:00 PM on October 27. Advanced ticket sales started this past weekend and records are already being broken reports Variety. Fans in Los Angeles started camping out in line last Thursday for the presale beginning Sunday at the L.A. Live Cinemas at Nokia Plaza. L.A. Live will be showing This Is It on every one of its 14 screens on October 27th. All 3,000 seats for the first screening were sold out within two hours.

The documentary also dominated online ticket sales in the U.S. through sites like Fandango and MovieTickets.com accounting for 80 percent of all sales within the first 24 hours.

Much like the King of Pop himself, the film is not just popular in the U.S. Shows are selling out in Australia, France, Germany and New Zealand. More than 30,000 tickets were sold in London, outperforming presales of blockbusters like Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.

If you didn't get your tickets yet, you're probably out of luck for the early release date. With record breaking sales already you may want to pick up tickets sooner rather than later for the limited two-week engagement.
