Michael Jackson documentary This Is It to open early with advance screenings

If you just haven't had enough of the "King of Pop" since his untimely death in June then This Is It. You may not have to wait until the release date of October 28 to see the new Michael Jackson documentary according to The Hollywood Reporter. This Is It will officially start its limited two-week run on the 28th in over 3,000 theaters. About two thirds of those locations will hold advance screenings as early as 9:00 PM on Tuesday the 27th. Fans who want to get in on those early screenings will have their chance when advanced ticketing begins Sunday.

Directed by Kenny Ortega, This Is It features rehearsal and behind-the-scenes footage from Jackson's planned London concert series. Sony marketing and distribution chairman Jeff Blake said, "By rolling out this film with simultaneous premiers and advance screenings on October 27, we are giving audiences an incredible opportunity to join together in celebration of Michael Jackson's incredible career."

This is not only an "incredible opportunity" for fans but pretty sweet deal for Sony and others involved with the film. They'll sell a lot of tickets in the two weeks the film is in theaters and maybe a few extra with the early opening. Who knows, if demands is there they may even extend it after the limited engagement. Michael Jackson, the man, may have passed on but his empire still lives.
