Box Office Challenge: 'Bridesmaids' and 'Priest' join 'Thor'

Hitting the screens this weekend ...

Bridesmaids Priest

TSR's complete Film Review Database

It's a pretty bleak week for newcomers this May weekend. With only two newcomers, both of which don't have "blockbuster" written all over them, this weekend at the movie could be anybody's game.

My best guess is that Thor will remain king this weekend. Even if reception to the film hasn't been overwhelmingly positive, it's got superhero hype on its side.

Bridesmaids has potential, and while I'm really excited for it, the turn out for a female-driven comedy? Well, I can't imagine it will be overwhelming. Still, there's not a lot of competition up against it.

Priest doesn't stand much of a chance. The film hasn't received much positive buzz, wasn't screened for many critics and its shameless use of cash cow 3D seems like it could definitely backfire on this one. Plus, looking at Paul Bettany's recent box office record doesn't really inspire much confidence.

Fast Five is definitely slowing down this weekend, but I don't see people getting sick of Paul Walker and Vin Diesel just yet. I'm picturing a fourth place finish for this one.

Finally, Jumping the Broom definitely has a limited appeal, but after a healthy opening weekend, it's proven that it's still a serious contender. With any luck, Jumping the Broom will be rounding out our top five this weekend.
