Folks don’t seem to be getting tired of this jolly green ogre. This is its third week of release and its third week as number one on the top five. Coincidence? I think not. It even beat four new wide releases to claim the lead.
The Judd Apatow-produced rocker comedy Get Him to the Greek had a respectable opening weekend. Despite a bevy of star cameos, it looks like Russell Brand or Jonah Hill didn’t have enough star power to bring it to number one.
The Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl action comedy Killers followed close behind. Bayer didn’t hate it, but he didn’t love it and it seems that’s the way most people felt about it during its opening weekend. The number three spot on our top five isn’t great, but it’s definitely not terrible, much like the movie itself.
Jake Gyllenhaal and the whitest Middle Easterners you’ll ever see came in fourth in its second weekend. It doesn’t seem like too many people out there feel strongly about this movie one way or another, but given its position on the top five in its second weekend, don’t expect to hear about this one much longer on our list.
Finally, Sex and the City 2 came in number five this weekend. The glamorous comedy has stirred controversy on its stance on the traditions of the Middle East, but this is one example of a movie where even controversy can’t sell tickets. It fell hard in its second weekend and with two new releases next week, I can’t imagine it’ll make it onto the list next weekend, but we’ll see.
