Box Office Challenge
What movie will be No. 1 at the box office?
Hitting the screens this weekend ...
Colombiana Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark Our Idiot Brother
TSR's complete Film Review Database
This weekend looks to be a fairly quiet one at the box office. Three wide releases, none of them particularly enticing, none of them hugely marketed...
Zoe Saldana takes a stab at leading lady, in the revenge pic, Colombiana. Written by Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita, The Professional) and directed by Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3), this film looks pretty slick. It should do alright at the box office, but I'm not feeling a blockbuster here. Michael Vartan (Alias, Rogue) co-stars.
Director Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy) serves up this weekend's horror offering, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. The film was written and produced by del Toro (who also leant his voice to some of the creature vocals), was directed by newcomer Troy Nixey, and stars Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes.
The ubiquitous Paul Rudd strikes again, in this weekend's token comedy, Our Idiot Brother. It's probably just me, but I feel that Rudd's getting a bit over-exposed, and he just plays himself. He's great, but yeah. Elizabeth Banks and Zooey Deschanel co-star in this (by my estimation) hum-drum comedy. Directed by Jesse Peretz (The Chateau).
Each week Calhoun Kersten and Aaron Ruffcorn go head to head in a Box Office Challenge. Who will win? Maybe you. Calhoun will be back Monday with the Box Office Review. Tune in to find out who wins.
We’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Number 1 film in the U.S. Whoever is closest, wins. But really, if they aren't within $2 million, it's not very impressive.
It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.
Calhoun Kersten's prediction for the weekend of August 26 - 28 …
Colombiana ($23 Million)
Aaron Ruffcorn's prediction for the weekend of August 26 - 28 …
