Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz funny men Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are going to take their beloved geekery to a whole new level with their next film, Paul. The feature, which will be produced by Universal Pictures and Working Title Films, had long been rumored to be the duo's next project. Directed by Superbad helmer Greg Mottola, the two will play science fiction and conspiracy theory fans who take a road trip to Area 51, only to meet Paul, the film's title alien.
With the script written by Frost and Pegg, Paul will feature appearances by Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Jane Lynch, and Bill Hader. Seth Rogen will be the voice of alien Paul.
Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan will produce the film, set to shoot in June, with Nira Park of Big Talk Productions.
Although it has only been two years, it feels like it's been a long time since we've seen Nick Frost and Simon Pegg together. Simon Pegg was recently seen in Star Trek, which was preceded by a run in comedies ( and How To Lose Friends and Alienate People). As for Frost, he hasn't been too visible since we saw him in the action-comedy Hot Fuzz in 2007. So, news of Paul is very exciting, not because of its loaded cast, but because it will give us back two funny dudes who haven't let us down yet. That, and it reminds me that I really should get around to watching their series "Spaced."
