Premiering before Terminator Salvation was this rather awesome trailer for Guy Ritchie's next film, Sherlock Holmes. A glimpse at this preview seems to indicate that the "Elementary, dear Watson" stereotypical simplicity of Holmes has been replaced by none other than an arse-kickin' Robert Downey Jr., (whose accent sounds like it will stand fine next to Jude Law's authentic one). In the film, one of literature's most popular characters battles a new nemesis, and tries to stop an evil scheme that could very well destroy his country.
I have only seen this trailer once and I hope to keep it that way, just incase this is one of those "greedy" previews that spoils any bit of fun for anyone who looks too closely. But from a quick glance, it looks like this one will have a decent amount of action. Downey Jr. gets in a few brawls, there's some gun shots, and even an explosion or two. Whatever is offered, it sounds like it will be a step up of excitement from Arthur Conan Doyle's original vision of the character.
Sherlock Holmes opens November 20, 2009.
