'The Odd Life of Timothy Green' starring Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton

The Odd Life of Timothy Green Directed by: Peter Hedges Starring: Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton, CJ Adams Rating: PG Release Date: August 15, 2012

TRAILER SCORE: 8/10

Thoughts by TSR: When the first trailer for The Odd Life of Timothy Green was released I was mostly won over by the charm of its two stars, Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton. This offers much of the same, but overall it sells me on the film even more. I doubt it will be the type of film I’ll frequently revisit for years to come, but it looks like a sweet bit of counter-programming to wrap up the summer movie season.

The chemistry of Garner and Edgerton still shines, but here we get to see a bit more of the moppet who comes from the garden and into their lives. And you know what? Despite my tendency to not have much tolerance for most child actors, CJ Adams looks fairly appealing. When he asks the other children what it’s like coming from their “mom’s tummies” I actually cracked a smile. Indeed, I found myself smiling through much of this trailer, even laughing when Garner makes Edgerton lower the pressure, resulting in him telling Timothy to simply “Have the day you have.”

Not even the Kelly Clarkson song could dampen my spirits! It all runs the risk of cuteness overload, sure, but I’m optimistic it can avoid that. If it ends up as charming as this trailer and its three stars, then The Odd Life of Timothy Green could be a whimsical little gem tucked away at the end of the summer.
