'Howl' starring James Franco - trailer review

Howl Directed by: Rob Epstein, Jeffrey Friedman Starring: James Franco, Jon Hamm, Jeff Daniels Rating: NR Release Date: September 24th, 2010 (limited)

TRAILER SCORE: 6/10

MY THOUGHTS: While I can't say that Allen Ginsberg's obscenity trial is at the top of my buzz-list, I have enjoyed watching James Franco in just about everything he's done.  He looks great in this trailer.  Casting him alongside Jon Hamm and Jeff Daniels further enhances the film's draw.  I'm excited to see this film based solely on the caliber of the actors involved -- this trailer didn't sell me on the story at all, as it's got a "heard this all before" feel to it. Hollywood is in love with reminding us how dangerously repressed we all used to be -- that's a tired message in these days of excess.

Roughly fifteen prints of Howl are currently being shown across the country -- one of them arrives here in Milwaukee this Friday -- I'm really looking forward to checking it out.
