'Saw VII 3D' starring Tobin Bell and Cary Elwes - trailer review

Saw VII 3D Directed by: Kevin Greutert Starring: Tobin Bell, Cary Elwes, Costas Mandylor Rating: R Release Date: October 29, 2010

TRAILER SCORE: 7/10

MY THOUGHTS: I've never a big torture porn fan. It's always sort of weirded me out (for obvious reasons) but at the same time, against my better judgment, every so often I watch for the gore. I know, it's sick and twisted, but I'd rather it happen on a movie screen than real life, doesn't that count for anything? And so begins my complicated relationship with the Saw series. I legitimately enjoyed the first and since then, I've managed to follow all the ups and downs of the series. It's in that capacity that I want to see Saw VII 3D, for some sort of weird closure that I can't entirely explain why I need, but it's there nonetheless. The trailer tries to sell the fact that they "save the best for last" so I have lofty expectations, but judging from the teaser trailer, I'm not sure what to expect. I mean, sure, as usual with the Saw movies I'm expecting a bloodbath and some Rube Goldberg machines of death, but in terms of story? No idea. I may have been one of the only ones to enjoy Saw VI with its clear political slant (what's that about death lobbies and insurance?) so I'm excited for the return of the same director. Furthermore, those of you who've read me before probably know that I'm not a huge 3D fan, but if ever there was a time for the gimmick? Yup, you guessed it, it's the horror movie. I don't think it will really add or detract from the movie, but hopefully it'll be a fun spin on the technology. While I'm not desperate to see Saw VII 3D it is one of the more fun projects I'm looking forward to this Halloween season.
