'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' starring Jake Gyllenhaal - trailer review

Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time Directed by: Mike Newell Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Alfred Molina Rating: PG-13 Release Date: May 28, 2010

TRAILER SCORE: 6/10

MY THOUGHTS: It looks like it’s about time for another brainless action franchise with this one. It’s definitely not all bad and for what it’s worth, Prince of Persia looks enjoyable as an escapist movie. At least that’s what this trailer seems to be trying to sell it as, so it’s nice to know that it’s at least aware that it probably won’t be taking home any Oscars. The trailer sort of skimps on the story, but like I said, it offers plenty of visual beauty. Based on the trailer, the visual effects seem to be the centerpiece of the story, which makes it prime blockbuster material. Hopefully as the release date approaches a more cohesive or even story-oriented trailer will be made available, but for now I’ll just sit back and enjoy the landscape and special effects. After all, there’s not much else there to look at, is there? That sort of sums up how I’m expecting to feel about the movie when it eventually does come out; plenty to look at, but not much substance. Then again, I’m not complaining. I could always go for a brainless blockbuster after awards season.
