Box Office Challenge

Hitting the screens this weekend ...

Morning Glory Skyline Unstoppable

TSR's complete Film Review Database

It's a strange weekend for new releases. With movies like Morning Glory, Skyline, and Unstoppable it seems like studios couldn't find a good time to release them, so they ended up somewhere in the middle of November.

Still, if we're being realistic about this one, Unstoppable might be the best bet this weekend. A runaway train movie? Yeah, it doesn't sound like it'll be breaking any box office records, but then again, look at its competition.

Megamind may be the name to beat though. AFter a stellar opening weekend, I'm imagining the fanfare will die down a little, but with the IMAX and 3D market cornered, those jacked up ticket prices are going to do wonders for their numbers!

Morning Glory looks like a solid enough effort, although Bayer may disagree, but it looks like they may have shot off their own foot. A Wednesday release can be good news for some of the bigger items, but my guess is that mid-week opening is going to hurt their weekend numbers.

Due Date may have let down some of the critics, including some of our own, but once again, looking at the competition, there's not a whole lot of comedy to contend with, so that may be enough to seal the deal.

Finaly, I'd honestly be surprised if Skyline showed up at all, but it's been getting a lot more coverage lately. It's not my kind of flick, but sci-fi movies tend to have a pretty devoted audience, which may be just enough to push it into the top five this weekend.

Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order). Also guess how many millions the #1 movie will make.

It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.

My prediction for the weekend of November 12 - 14 …

1. Unstoppable ($23 million)

2. Megamind

3. Morning Glory

4. Due Date

5. Skyline

So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?

Unstoppable

Morning Glory
