Hi.

This is Jeff Bayer, and I don't update this site very often. If you'd like to listen to my current movie podcast you can find it at MovieBS.com.

Box Office Preview - July 23 - 'Salt' takes on 'Inception'

Hitting the screens this week… Salt complete Salt coverage

Ramona and Beezus Bayer's TSR - 7/10

This weekend brings two new releases. One for the family in the form of Ramona and Beezus and another for action fan hormonal teen boys with Angelina Jolie’s Salt.

Sadly, Angelina Jolie may not be much competition for Inception. The Christopher Nolan flick had a hell of an opening weekend and it doesn’t show any signs of stopping with many people going to see the film in IMAX or even repeat viewing.

Still, with the better half of Brangelina in a movie, it’s hard to think Salt will flop. I predict a respectable opening weekend with Salt claiming the number two spot.

Steve Carell and orphans makes for a surprisingly successful film and what with the 3D gimmick being played for all its worth, there’s good reason to believe that it’s not going anywhere.

Ramona and Beezus may have some great names to its credit (I mean, seriously, who doesn’t find Ginnifer Goodwin adorable?) but sadly, Beverly Cleary adaptations are rarely on most folks’ “must-see” lists. This seems like it would have been a moneymaker back when “Fudge” was on the air, but it may not break the bank this weekend.

Finally, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice has proven to be somewhat of a flop, but it’s a fun movie so I’m not giving up on it yet. It’ll definitely trail towards the bottom of the top five, but I think there’s still hope for it.

Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order).

It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.

My prediction for the weekend of July 23– July 25 …

1. Inception complete Inception coverage

2. Salt complete Salt coverage

3. Despicable Me complete Despicable Me coverage

4. Ramona and Beezus Bayer's TSR - 7/10

5. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice complete Apprentice coverage

So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?

Ramona and Beezus
