Common added to Just Wright with Queen Latifah

Common is going to act. It's finally going to happen. I know what you're thinking ... he was in Terminator Salvation and American Gangster. But he was just hanging out. He wasn't acting. Those were small, forgettable roles. Here, in Just Wright he's the male lead. We're finally going to see what he's capable of. Here's the news release.

Fox Searchlight Pictures President of Production Claudia Lewis announced today that principal photography on JUST WRIGHT will begin in mid July, in New York. Starring Academy Award® nominee Queen Latifah (THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES, CHICAGO), Paula Patton (PRECIOUS, MIRRORS) and Common (TERMINATOR SALVATION, AMERICAN GANGSTER), the film will be directed by Sanaa Hamri (SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS 2), based on a script by Michael Elliot.

The story revolves around a sports trainer (Latifah) who finds herself falling in love with a professional basketball player (Common) while rehabilitating him from a career threatening injury. Things are further complicated because her closest friend (Patton) is also pursuing him.

“We are so happy to continue our long and fruitful relationship with Queen Latifah. As the smart and charismatic female lead, her chemistry with rising star Common will be great,” said Lewis. “Sanaa is a wonderfully talented director with a keen eye who will craft a fun romantic comedy set in the dynamic world of professional basketball.”

“It's really inspiring to get to work with a cast and crew of this caliber who exhibit such dedication and ability. I love stories that have heart while at the same time are fun and entertaining. JUST WRIGHT has the right elements for me as a filmmaker,” said Hamri.

The film will be released by Fox Searchlight in 2010. The film is being produced by Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere and Debra Martin Chase. Zola Mashariki, Senior Vice President of Production and DanTram Nguyen, Creative Executive, are overseeing the project.
