Twilight Night at 2009 MTV Movie Awards

Inspired by greats like Beavis and Butthead, the MTV generation continued to rebel against their elders with this year's MTV Movie Awards. However, maybe rightfully so, as Oscar wishes he could only be this much fun. No disrespect to the Academy's arguably more credible taste, (I mean, Slumdog Millionaire is better than say ... Twilight), but this year's show, hosted by Andy Samberg, offered some great moments that Oscar could only imagine in its Best Original Screenplay category. Here's a brief list for those who may have missed Sunday's show:

- Forest Whitaker crooning The Lonely Island's "D**k In A Box" - Kiefer Sutherland crying over how good an actor Ben Stiller is - Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer playing a Sega Genesis game based on the film Doubt - Sacha Baron Cohen hanging from wires almost naked, falling on Eminem, causing the rapper to storm out - Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson winding up to recreate their "Best Kiss" only to stop and say thanks to a few people and then walk away - A trailer for what will likely sweep the awards show next year (New Moon) - Bruce Springsteen losing a chance AGAIN to earn recognition for his song for The Wrestler ... but this time to Miley Cyrus

Oh, and there's also some fun in watching 2008 Best Picture winner Slumdog Millionaire lose to Twilight. It's very amusing, in a "Paul Blart: Mall Cop is the #1 movie in America" kind of way.

As far as actual awards go, tonight was certainly a Twilight night, with the vampire film winning five out six awards (losing to ... Miley Cyrus, muahaha!). As if we didn't realize already, Twilight really was the hottest film of 2008, (not just talking about Kristen Stewart), and New Moon will probably dominate the same amount come MTV Movie Awards 2010. But maybe that fire will die down, especially since Robert Pattinson won't be able to vie for the "Best Breakthrough Male Performance" category for a second time. And unless there's a huge disaster in the midst, it's very likely all four films of the Twilight Saga will be nominated for the prestigious "Best Movie" category. Maybe by the day when Breaking Dawn is up for the award, MTV will concede and just award it "Best Twilight Film of the Year."
