Jake's Take on his interview with Johnny Knoxville and the gang
When it comes to doing junkets and airing them on your local news stations -- mine being Fox 26 in Houston, Texas -- there are certain no-brainers when it comes to what is allowed content-wise and what is not. Obviously, when you interview the guys from Jackass, you're going to get more of the latter than the former. In fact, when airing these pieces, I made plenty of jokes about how censored the interviews had to be.
But, when the package ended and I was wrapping my segment, I threw in an unscripted side-note. I told my audience that, despite their vulgar jokes and R-rated vocabulary (which I openly admitted to finding hilarious), the guys of Jackass were some of the kindest and most giving interviewees I've sat across and quite some time -- and I would be more than honored to interview them for as many Jackass movies as they're willing to make.
Sometimes, an entire audience can have an idea about a group of people. The way I figure it -- if you don't take the opportunity to set them straight, who is?
I can only hope that one day, someone might do the same for me.
