Movie of the Week

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

The Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint The Plot: The final chapter of the Harry Potter franchise. Harry, Ron, and Hermione continue in their quest to find and destroy the Dark Lord's three remaining Horcruxes The Buzz: We've been following these spell-casters around now for just over a decade, and it's hard to believe that their journey is coming to a close. It's been interesting to see Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint grow up on screen. I've personally found these films to be more and more palatable as the kids have moved on through the years, and have therefore found each film in the series to be better than the last. I hope this final installment continues that trend, and I imagine such will be the case.

There's no room for competition this coming weekend. Winnie the Pooh? What are they thinking releasing that on the same day? Perhaps it's true, perhaps this Potter film will be too dark for young children? I dunno though, still seems daft to release a film on the same day as the final Potter film. Heck, even Transformers: Dark of the Moon will bow down before Potter.

Every Friday we'll have new reviews of the latest films. TSR's complete Film Review Database

Blu-ray/DVD of the Week

Brazil

The Stars: Jonathan Pryce, Kim Greist, Robert De Niro The Plot: A bureaucrat (Pryce) in a retro-future world tries to correct an administrative error and himself becomes an enemy of the state. The Buzz: FinallyTerry Gilliam's twice nominated quasi-sci-fi Brazil has come to Blu-ray. This 1985 film is at both modern and antiquated, both ahead of its time and gloriously dated -- with stunning visuals as projected through the lens of late 70's/early 80's filmmaking.

Gilliam has brought us many such visions (Time BanditsThe Adventures of Baron MunchausenThe Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) but this one is arguably his best offering. Quirky, romantic, creepy, political, dreamlike and funny, are words that come to mind here. The film's cast is phenomenal, featuring performances by Charles McKeown, Jim Broadbent, Ian Holm, Michael Palin, Bob Hoskins, and Robert De Niro.
