'10 Years' starring Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt - trailer review

10 Years Directed by: Jamie Linden Starring: Channing Tatum, Oscar Isaac, Chris Pratt Rating: PG-13 Release Date: September 14, 2012

TRAILER SCORE: 7/10

Thoughts by TSR: As this trailer began and we were introduced to the likes of Channing Tatum, Oscar Isaac, Justin Long, and Chris Pratt, I was impressed that first-time director Jamie Linden managed to land such names. Then it continued and I was blown away to also see Kate Mara, Aubrey Plaza, Lynn Collins, Anthony Mackie, and Brian Geraghty (the latter two making a very welcome The Hurt Locker reunion). I’m not convinced 10 Years will completely live up to the tremendous cast, but this trailer makes it look like they will keep it charming and likeable throughout.

Chris Pratt being in a film with Channing Tatum is something that makes a lot of sense to me. I loved their few moments together, particularly Pratt saying Tatum got fat. The reunion of Mackie and Geraghty is also among my favorite parts. They have a nice, believable rapport that makes Mackie’s ribbing all the more authentic. There’s plenty more that could be mentioned. That, however, speaks to the biggest concern: whether or not the film has too much going on. There are so many subplots that it will be tough to get invested in all of them. And the ones we do get invested in might not get the screen time they deserve.

Nevertheless, in trailer form it mostly works. 10 Years isn’t going to be the crown jewel of Channing Tatum’s 2012, but it should be enjoyable enough to bolster his amazing year.
