'The Mechanic' starring Jason Statham - trailer review

The Mechanic Directed by: Simon West Starring: Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland Rating: R Release Date: January 28, 2011

TRAILER SCORE: 8/10

MY THOUGHTS: I'm not sure anybody's ever been to a Jason Statham movie thinking they were walking into a thought-provoking drama or the next Citizen Kane. Let's face it, the guys track record is a little less than stellar. I mean, Revolver? That was a bad day for Statham and Guy Ritchie. but that's neither here nor there. The point is, with Jason Statham comes certain expectations. Violence, explosions, perhaps a certain gratuitous sex scene?

The Mechanic promises all this and more. It's like your annual dose of testosterone wrapped up in one package. The story is somewhat lacking, with a pretty basic structure. Jason Statham takes a "kid" under his wing for personal reasons and a whole bunch of wackiness ensues. But, like I said, it's not so much about getting from point A to point B. It's more about what blows up in between point A and point B and aforementioned wackiness.

This trailer gives a nice taste of what's to come, which is undoubtedly violent scene after violent scene. The nice thing about the trailer is that it doesn't try to sell too hard. It doesn't give a little taste of every element, but it basks in its unadulterated action-ness. besides, it's kinda hard to sell people on Jason Statham. It's usually either you're a fan or you aren't. This trailer embraces that and gives Statham fans a preview of what they love to pay for.
