Hi.

This is Jeff Bayer, and I don't update this site very often. If you'd like to listen to my current movie podcast you can find it at MovieBS.com.

Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky (limited) Allen's TSR - 7/10

This weekend brings two much-anticipated movie events of the summer in the same weekend. Die-hard Twilight fans (who I’ll refrain from calling Twi-hards) have the third installment of the series to look forward to while fans of otherworldly fantasy have The Last Airbender.

Seeing the devotion of fans of the series (not to mention the disposable income), it wouldn’t surprise me to see Eclipse take the number one spot this weekend. After taking in $30 million and breaking the single day, midnight record on June 29, this is poised to perform well.

That’s not to say that Toy Story 3 will fall far. It continues to impress audiences and critics alike in its second weekend, but is third time really the charm? It certainly was for the series, but maybe not for the weekend.

The Last Airbender has the distinct advantage of having a loyal fan base, but is it as loyal as vamp lovers? It’s hard to say. The movie does look visually impressive and does have the distinct advantage of not being an original Shyamalan idea, but that alone won’t carry it to the bank.

Sadly, Adam Sandler and company will probably take a hit this weekend. There’s just not enough to keep them coming. After a solid opening weekend, I’m counting on this movie just going downhill from there.

Finally, despite Knight and Day’s fun popcorn flick feel, it’s hard to imagine it getting a second wind after underperforming in its opening weekend. It’s a shame because the movie is fun, but Cruise seems to be pretty much box office poison at this point.

Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order).

It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.

My prediction for the weekend of June 18– June 20 …

1. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

2. Toy Story 3

3. The Last Airbender

4. Grown Ups

5. Knight and Day

So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
