MY THOUGHTS: Film history has a complicated history with I Spit On Your Grave a.k.a. Day of the Woman. It was considered deplorable and misogynistic in its initial release for its brutal depiction of rape and mayhem. Then again, with America's love of torture porn, it's no surprise that this one is getting remade. Judging from the trailer, this doesn't look like this is going to be anything special in the way of remakes, certainly no better but hopefully no worse. This tries to stamp some originality into it, but for folks who have sen the original it doesn't look like like good news. You've got your typical screams, the panting and the screaming as the protagonist runs through the woods, but there was nothing engaging about this trailer for me. However, as a fan of the original, I'm really interested to see if/what they change in this remake. One issue I can't help but take with the movie is that they definitely amped up the sexy. It just makes it confusing when the audience is supposed to be horrified at her brutalization, but message boards are already flooded with questions like, "Will we get to see her naked?" In this day and age, I can't pretend to be shocked or offended that sex sells, but for this re-imagining of a horrific film, I'd wish that they'd stuck with a more innocent-looking trailer.
