'Gulliver's Travels' starring Jack Black - trailer review

Gulliver's Travels Directed by: Rob Letterman Starring: Jack Black, Jason Segel, Emily Blunt Rating: NR Release Date: December 22, 2010

TRAILER SCORE: 5/10

MY THOUGHTS: It's been a while since I reviewed the first trailer from Gulliver's Travels, but I can't say that too much has changed. I'm assuming realism isn't a factor in this, so I'll skip right over that, including the fact that no job would send you off for three weeks on your first assignment. Hell, it took Jeff at least three weeks before he'd even let me do a trailer review that he didn't look over before I published.

Anyway, ignoring all that, this movie relies heavily on one thing; Jack Black being funny. Now don't get me wrong, I love Orange County and jack Black is pretty great in High Fidelity, but it's been a while since he's made me laugh. Still, I'm hoping that the myriad of cameos and the supporting cast will help to balance Black out. I'm not making any promises, but a man can dream, can't he? Still, Black takes off his shirt and uses his fat as yet another thing to make people laugh, but at this point, it's just getting kinda gross. Plus, as his go to gag, it leaves a little something to be desired.

Still, I think the main issue with this trailer is its time. It clocks in at a little under three minutes. Haven't these people heard of "less is more?" In the case of Jack Black, less is definitely more for me. Even if he wasn't a factor, it just seems like too much to take in one trailer. In the end, it doesn't look like anything too special, but it might be good for a cheap laugh or a snow day. Until then, I think I can stand to pass.
