Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Directed by: Edgar Wright Starring: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anna Kendrick Rating: NR Release Date: August 13, 2010
TRAILER SCORE: 10/10
MY THOUGHTS: It looks like I’ve found the indie wet dream of the year. Featuring Michael Cera? Check. Based on a graphic novel? Check. Underdog story? More than likely a check. Still, I shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss it. I was originally an “Arrested development” fan so I enjoy Michael Cera but him playing the awkward shy guy who gets the girl has become a tired routine so I’m interested to see if this will be any different. I’m hoping against hope that it is and this trailer seems like a good sign. However, Michael Cera aside, this trailer has a lot going for it. I’m a fan of Edgar Wright’s and while I generally make it a rule to never fall in love with directors, he’s put out really solid stuff consistently so I have no reason to believe this is any different. Plus, with the cast that he’s assembled? It’s a no-brainer for me. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is frequently the best part of bad movies so the opportunity for her to appear in something that isn’t Final Destination 3 is a Godsend. He's nailed it even down to the casting of Anna Kendrick, who was my favorite part of last year’s Up in the Air. Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World has all the makings of a great movie and I for one can’t wait until August for this one.
