Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Directed by: Edgar Wright Starring: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin Rating: PG-13 Release Date: August 13, 2010
TRAILER SCORE: 9/10
MY THOUGHTS: It's a rare feat to get me this excited about a movie. While I'm not much a post-"Arrested Development" Michael Cera fan, I'm willing to overlook this for Scott Pilgrim. The premise is the simple boy meets girl format, only enter into the picture seven evil exes. It sounds a little goofy, but that's half the fun of this trailer. You know that there are some movies which just take themselves a little too seriously, but there doesn't seem to be much danger of that fate for Scott Pilgrim. Even if Michael Cera's not your cup of tea, the rest of the cast has plenty to offer. Honestly, I was surprised that they didn't capitalize on half of the actors and actresses involved. I mean, forget the fact that they've got Anna Kendrick, but also Jason Schwartzman and Mae Whitman, also from "Arrested Development" fame. It's like a nerd's dream come true. It's this kind of awesome cast that helps me come to terms with the male lead. But this trailer's true stroke of genius? Capitalizing on the previous work of director Edgar Wright. If anyone's earned the right to brag about their film work, it's the consistently hilarious Edgar Wright. If anyone can bring the vision of the graphic novel to the screen in full, vibrant detail, it's Edgar Wright and this amazing cast.
