Hitting the screens this week… Lottery Ticket
Nanny McPhee Returns
Vampires Suck (Wednesday)
Theaters will be flooded with new releases this weekend. A whopping five new releases in one weekend is probably the most aggressive we’ve seen Hollywood in a while. The question is, which ones will crack the top five?
From the looks of it, most of them will have trouble taking the number one spot from Sly and company. While some people may not be happy about this (I’m looking at you Bayer) the success of some of these actors has never given them a shot at number one so I say, enjoy it while it lasts.
Even though I’d never really seen much for Vampires Suck, give its number of theaters and the studio going ahead and giving it a Wednesday release shows that there’s at least some interest. After all, it does have the word “vampire” in it.
The charm of the 3D gimmick may wear off this weekend with Piranha 3D, even though it won’t stop me from seeing it. In times where people seem to be going to the movies less and less, no one has time for schlocky fun any more.
Eat Pray Love will probably still be at it this weekend, but having considerably less interest than its first weekend. After all, who can resist the urge to pay ten bucks for Julia Roberts’ gummy smile?
Finally, Nanny McPhee Returns may have a rough go of it. Trying to hook the tail end of the summer crowd before all the kids go back to school, they may have been a little too late. That and the total lack of buzz make me think that Nanny McPhee may not be around for a third outing.
Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order).
It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.
My prediction for the weekend of August 20 - 22 …
1. The Expendables
2. Vampires Suck
3. Piranha 3D
4. Eat Pray Love
5. Nanny McPhee returns
So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
