Hitting the screens this week… The Other Guys complete Other Guys coverage
Step Up 3D complete Step Up coverage
Get Low (Limited) complete Get Low coverage
Mao’s Last Dancer (Limited) complete Mao's coverage
Cairo Time (Limited) complete Cairo coverage
This weekend sees the release of two new movies in wide release and two in limited. First is The Other Guys starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as a pair of oddball cops. The second movie this week is the third movie in the Step Up franchise, appropriately named Step Up 3D. Sadly, Get Low, which is a great film, doesn’t stand much of a chance making the top five with its limited release, nor does Mao’s Last Dancer.
I’m predicting a close race between Inception and The Other Guys with Ferrell and friends landing a distinctive lead. Come on Nolan, it’s time to give up that number one spot.
For those who don’t feel compelled to see either of the new releases, you’re not alone. I personally think even with this two, Inception will take a close second easily.
Finally, Step Up 3D may have dance fans hooked, but it feels like the general American public has grown disenchanted with class warfare solved by dance. 3D might help this movie out a little, or it could end up seriously damaging it with higher ticket prices. I’m thinking it’ll end up number three on our list.
Dinner for Schmucks proved to be the little movie that could last weekend, with its impressive earnings and fewer theaters than most of its competition. There’s no reason to think there will be an end to that, but with new movies in the running, it might slip a little, down to number four.
Finally, Salt may be featured on this list for the last week. The Jolie spy thriller has been described as fun, but predictable, which doesn’t mean great things for its numbers.
Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order).
It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.
My prediction for the weekend of August 6 - 8 …
1. The Other Guys complete Other Guys coverage
2. Inception complete Inception coverage
3. Step Up 3D complete Step Up coverage
4. Dinner for Schmucks complete Schmucks coverage
5. Salt complete Salt coverage
So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
