Box Office Preview - August 13 - 'Expendables,' 'Eat Pray Love' vs. 'Scott Pilgrim'

Hitting the screens this week… Eat Pray Love complete Eat Pray Love coverage

The Expendables complete Expendables coverage

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World complete Scott Pilgrim coverage

Animal Kingdom (limited) complete Animal Kingdom coverage

Last weekend’s winner, The Other Guys has some stiff competition this week. For some of the ladies in the audience or really anyone who knows what it’s like to feel lost and directionless, there’s Eat Pray Love. For the manly men (and don’t think I forgot the badass women out there, McLaughlin) there’s the semi-washed up action star reunion, The Expendables. Finally, for all the fanboys, there’s Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.

The Expendables has a distinct advantage over its competition in the sense that it’s about time for another action movie. That paired with some of the star billing gives The Expendables a definite edge that could take it to number one.

But let’s not forget American movie darling, Julia Roberts. Her box office pull plus the trendiness of director Ryan Murphy may be enough to sell Eat Pray Love to the masses, not to mention the millions of fans of the best-selling book.

The Other Guys will probably land in third with its combination of action and goofy comedy. After an opening weekend like they had, it’s hard to imagine it’d just go away, so I’m predicting it will roll in at number three.

Scott Pilgrim may just be too indie for its own good. It’s got a very specific target audience that may not be worth all the money poured into the project. Still, I could always be wrong, but right now, Scott and the seven evil exes are looking at fourth place.

Finally, Inception will be rounding out our list. It’s had a good run, but it may be time to say goodbye to Cobb and company. There’s always hope, but it seems like Inception has run its course.

Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order).

It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.

My prediction for the weekend of August 13 - 15 …

1. The Expendables complete Expendables coverage

2. Eat Pray Love complete Eat Pray Love coverage

3. The Other Guys complete Other Guys coverage

4. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World complete Scott Pilgrim coverage

5. Inception complete Inception coverage
