TSRn: Darren Aronofsky to Direct Michael Chabon HBO Project

The Scorecard Review news

News: Darren Arnofsky is going to direct the pilot of Hobgoblin, a HBO series about con men and magicians working against the Third Reich during World War II. Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Thoughts by TSR: Aronofsky is a cool, very visual director and I have to think that anything he directs is going to look great. But a TV show director's job is different than a film director's job, he'll probably be more of a contract player than the master of his domain. Chabon is kind of hit or miss as a writer. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay is a fantastic book that no one seems to be able to make into a movie, despite the preproduction rumors that always seem to be floating around. Luckily, the story behind this script seems to be very much in the mode of his most famous novel so hopefully this new show will be great. More Game of Thrones than Boardwalk Empire.
