Grammy Award winner Christina Aguilera will try to add acting to her list of talents in the upcoming film Burlesque under the direction of Steven Antin. Variety reports, Aguilera will play a small town girl who heads to L.A. to perform in a neo-burlesque club where she finds love, family and success. The contemporary musical script was written by Steven Antin and revisions were made by writer Susannah Grant, best known for Erin Brockovich. Filming is scheduled to start later this year.
A Screen Gems executive commented that this project was created with Aguilera in mind. That hardly seems surprising given the musical nature of the film. I can't help but picture the "Lady Marmalade" music video, which may have been on the producers mind as well.
