'Dirty Girl' starring Juno Temple and Milla Jovavich - trailer review

Dirty Girl Directed by: Abe Sylvia Starring: Juno Temple. Milla Jovavich, Mary Steenburgen, William H. Macy Rating: R Release Date: October 7, 2011

TRAILER SCORE: 7/10

Thoughts by TSR: The film doesn't have a great title, but it looks surprisingly sweet anyway. A precociously sexual teen who doesn't fit in, in small town Oklahoma convinces a closeted gay boy to run off to California with her so she can find her father. Temple, who's been in a few things but isn't well known, seems like a charming young actress. The rest of the cast is pretty solid, with Jovavich, Steenburgen and Macy. There's a pervasive sense of religious conservatism in the American that doesn't generally get touched in most movies, when it does it's usually treated as some weird snake handling/people hollering in tongues type thing. It looks like Dirty Girl may handle it and the oppressive atmosphere it can created without actually condescending to the people or their beliefs. That would be a nice change of pace. Anyway, I'll hold out hope that this might be a good one.
