'Super' starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page - trailer review

Super Directed by: James Gunn Starring: Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Kevin Bacon, Liv Tyler Rating: Not Rated Release Date: April 1, 2011

TRAILER SCORE: 9/10

MY THOUGHTS: I thought this would be a rip-off of Kick-Ass until I saw the trailer. Though some of the same points seem to be hit (checking in at the comic book store, making the costume) this film seems to have it's own take on masked vigilantism. Wilson plays a poor schlub whose wife leaves him for a tough guy. So naturally he reacts by becoming a superhero, despite lacking any actual super powers. Ellen Page looks pretty awesome as his wannabe sidekick. I like the scene where she shows off her costume. Nathan Fillion is shown in the trailer too, but I can't tell who he plays. Best guess, some bizzaro version of Page's character. Director Gunn did the underrated Slither and the amusing if un-PC "PG Porn" web series. I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes his big breakout film.

I'm trying to reign in my excitement, but I'm not doing too great at it. I have high hopes that this one will be awesome.
