For Colored Girls Directed by: Tyler Perry Starring: Whoopi Goldberg, Janet Jackson, Thandie Newton Rating: R Release Date: November 5, 2010
TRAILER SCORE: 6/10
MY THOUGHTS:
This trailer plays more like a teaser, it doesn't give much away. Though it's directed by Perry, for once that's not what the ad people are trying to get across. It looks like it's trying to be a more mainstream film. Partially, I'm sure it's because this film has an R-rating and I don't know if the fans of his normal Christian-themed works would be interested. But I'm surprised that I haven't seen this trailer before, on TV or something. It has some really awesome actresses in it, besides the ones I mentioned above there is also Phylicia Rashad, Loretta Devine (a great character actress who doesn't get the respect she deserves), Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls), and Kimberly Elise (Beloved).
Despite the Obie winning subject matter (the play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf) and exceptional actresses, I'm on the fence as to whether I'll see it or not. Right now we'll call it a maybe.
