'Saw VII 3D' starring Tobin Bell - trailer review

Saw 3D Directed by: Kevin Greutert Starring: Tobin Bell, Cary Elwes, Costas Mandaylor Rating: R Release Date: October 22, 2010

TRAILER SCORE: 5/10

MY THOUGHTS: I know it doesn't seem like that long ago that Saw 3D came out with a teaser trailer, but they're at it again. Even though this trailer is a mere 1:26, it's effective in making me want to see the movie. See, here's the thing, yes, the Saw franchise does keep churning out movie after movie and I won't even pretend that all of them are good, but I find them entertaining enough. Sure, they tend to be a little unsettling with their graphic violence, but I'm a gore fan, what can I say? Still, the main reason to get excited is the return of director Kevin Greutert who directed Saw VI, or as I like to call it Jigsaw tackles healthcare issues. Saw VI is surprisingly smart (a term that has probably never been applied to a sixth in a franchise) and from the looks of the trailer, Saw VII offers more of the same. It feels like it panders a bit by offering it in 3D, but that seems to be all the rage these days. Still, the depiction of 3D in this trailer is just plain ridiculous and detracts from the trailer of what could be an otherwise entertaining movie. Hopefully it will be able to stay on message and not get caught up in the technology, but for now, it's hard to tell. Still, it seems worth checking out who Jigsaw has it out for in the last installment, including some old favorites.
