MY THOUGHTS: It's that time again, folks. That's right, time for the Oscar bait to start hitting the screen. Love and Other Drugs is one of the latest Oscar buzz pieces, although I personally couldn't tell you for what. Will it rack up the acting nods? The screenplay? Nothing about this movie seems to stand out too much, not that that's a bad thing. It looks like an entertaining enough movie. I couldn't tell you exactly why, but something about it (or maybe just the way they're selling it) reminds me of Up in the Air for the disillusioned, over-medicated Prozac nation generation. Gyllenhaal is charming as always and it's nice to see him and Ms. Hathaway paired together after that scarring "I just saw The princess Diaries' boobs" moment in Brokeback Mountain. But to be fair, what's really sold me on this movie is Anne Hathaway herself. Sure, she's picked some stinkers before, but what Hollywood actor hasn't done a paycheck movie? Especially after she lost the Oscar several years ago, even after giving an amazing turn in Rachel Getting Married, this feels like it may be her shot again. Either way, whether it ends up cleaning up at the Oscars or not, this looks like something worth checking out for some of the actors and actresses involved, even if it does seem to tread familiar territory.
