'Burlesque' starring Christina Aguilera and Cher - trailer review
Burlesque Directed by: Steve Antin Starring: Christina Aguilera, Cher, Kristen Bell Rating: NR Release Date: November 24, 2010
TRAILER SCORE: 4/10
MY THOUGHTS: Listen Kristen (after 3 fantastic years of Veronica Mars and 2 lackluster seasons of Heroes, pardon the familiarity) I've put up with a lot. I saw Pulse... in theaters! But Burlesque is where I'm going to have to draw the line. Sure, the trailer doesn't feature a whole lot of Kristen Bell, but if there was one reason for me seeing this movie, she was pretty much it. Still, Christina Aguilera starring in Coyote Ugly 2 just doesn't sound that appealing to me. I mean, that's what this is, right? Small town girl with big dreams trying to make it in the city? Well, who am I kidding? It's Coyote Ugly which I'm sure stole it from someone else. But that's the thing, I'm not upset with the stealing of the plot so much as I am just kinda sickened by the idea of it all. I understand that there is an art to burlesque and many burlesque dancers view it as a craft which takes practice. How do I know that? Well, I used to live with a burlesque dancer, but that's not the point. The integrity and art of the dance isn't really here in the trailer. Instead, it's just PG-13 glimpses of skin, Christina Aguilera doing her guttural throaty thing, and Cher trying to muster up a facial expression through all that plastic surgery. Not my idea of a good time. In the end, Burlesque looks more like a night to forget than one to remember.
