MY THOUGHTS: I’m a sucker for horror movies, I’ll be the first to admit it. I was never big into the whole “torture porn” genre (it’s totally a thing, just check Wikipedia) but as disturbing as it sounds, it’s grown on me. No matter how bad the acting or story (and believe me, this one’s pretty crazy) I find myself wanting to see how things get from bad, like the cliché “oh no, our car broke down” to worse, like “hey, wasn’t that someone’s kidney back there?” But like I said, the real draw here isn’t the acting, although with most horror movies it never is, but just the initial concept of stitching three folks together to share a single digestive tract. Doesn’t sound appealing to you? Evidently it wasn’t too appealing to test audiences either who supposedly walked out during the movie. Only in the horror business would that be considered a good thing, but consider me sold. Like with most movies, the most compelling character from the trailer is the mad doctor. It seems like a bit of a throwback to Vincent price-era mad scientist movies that I grew up watching late at night on the Sci-Fi channel with the violent sensibilities of a modern horror film. But as is the case with a lot of horror films these days, I can’t imagine the theater experience would do much to improve the movie or that it’ll even make an appearance at a theater near me, so I’m content to wait, but until then, I’ll keep checking Netflix and Amazon to see if a release date’s been set.
