MY THOUGHTS: I never can pass up an opportunity to watch a solid 90 minutes of a family that acts weirder than my own. The dysfunctional family comedy is a personal favorite of mine, so I’m willing to give City Island a chance. Does it look like the stuff that dreams are made of? Certainly not, but with such a strong cast, I’m admittedly pretty excited. Andy Garcia needs at least another hit or an indie gem under his belt and with Anchor Bay releasing and Alan Arkin co-starring, this could easily be a repeat of last year’s Sunshine Cleaning. Sure, the premise is incredibly different, but the quirky sensibility and emotional sincerity is what sold me on both movies. It looks like it may have its fair share of clichés, but in the end I’m hopeful for this one. A word of warning though, keep an eye out, this looks like one that could slip by undetected, but well worth noticing.
