'The Runaways' starring Kristen Stewart - trailer review
The Runaways Directed by: Floria Sigismondi Starring: Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, Scout Taylor-Compton Rating: R Release Date: April 9, 2010
TRAILER SCORE: 4/10
MY THOUGHTS: I admit the names Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart don’t come to mind when discussing any punk group. The movie looks ambitious, I’ll say that much. Dakota Fanning has proven herself at least as a capable actress, but the problem I have is with Kristen Stewart’s casting. It’s just impossible for her to embody Joan Jett for me. These are strong and intense women that they are playing and Kristen Stewart plays too demure for me. Then again, as a punk enthusiast I may be unnecessarily harsh on the casting choice. The trailer itself spends most of its time yelling at its audience about its stunt casting and very little on the plot. I understand that it’s about an all-girl punk group named The Runaways, but a poster could tell me that just as effectively. I watched the trailer because I wanted to see something. I wanted to get an idea of what to expect, but the trailer isn’t really any help there. In short, this trailer is itself a 4, but that’s no judgment on the movie. I’m admittedly curious about the film itself, but if this trailer is your first exposure toThe Runaways, I suggest, well…. running away.
