Green Zone
Directed by: Paul Greengrass Starring: Matt Damon, Greg Kinnear, Amy Ryan, Brendan Gleeson Rating: R Release Date: March 12, 2010
TRAILER SCORE: 6/10
MY THOUGHTS: I'm sure this movie is going to be all kinds of good clean fun (you know, "clean" as in explosions, machine guns, tough talkers, etc.), but the trailer is bland. Yes, it's exciting that Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon are reuniting post-Bourne Supremacy, and it's tough to lose with that winning combo. However, the trailer makes it look like just another Bourne movie without Jason Bourne--and that conflicted and mysterious character is key to the franchise. Who cares about another swaggering fearless hero? It's all surface, baby. You could put Vin Deisel in Green Zone and no one would even bat an eye.
All the trailer needs to tell us is that our favorite action couple is back. It should cut through all the silly, testosterony razzle-dazzle and just say, "Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass together again!" Regardless, we're all still going to see it. And there's a better trailer for you--cut through all the blabbity. Dark screen, and then "It's Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass: You Know You're Going to See it" fade to black.
