My Thoughts:
Diablo Cody’s strength is quirky dialogue and memorable characters that don’t quite fit the mold, and that’s hard to capture in a two-minute trailer. So let’s just assume that this movie isn’t going to be a painful, clichéd suckfest of epic proportions—we’re going to give Cody the benefit of the doubt. Obviously, Juno was a nearly perfect diamond among the stinky oodles of Hollywood dreck, and so Cody deserves our moviegoer trust (for now).
Horror/comedy is my very favoritist of all the genres and if done correctly (Shaun of the Dead) it’s a sick, fun blend of laughter and gag reflexes. If done incorrectly, it’s appallingly expensive buckets of flaming dog sh*t. If Cody pulls this off, it will be truly phenomenal, but, from what I’m seeing, Cody’s involvement is the only big plus this movie has going for it.
Here’s to being proven wrong.
