My Thoughts: As far as I’m concerned, slasher movies are the absolute slag of the horror movie genre, but you know what? A Nightmare on Elm Street doesn’t look half bad! The trailer displays some choice horror psychology, including Freddy running his metal claws along dark, steamy pipes, little blond girls singing “One…Two…Freddy’s comin’ for you…”, and someone’s eye being forcefully pried open. But I’m not completely naïve—the people who design these trailers are paid to dress up the crap and trick me into spending my money, so I’m going to stay wary about this one. Here’s my main concern: the original A Nightmare on Elm Street was super cool (scared the bejesus out of me as a kid), so if you’re going to remake it, put some effort into it, people. Make it something above and beyond the original and that doesn’t just mean butchering more topless women than all the other slasher movies. I’m willing to let this one surprise me.
