The creator of Office Space, "Beavis and Butthead," and cult-favorite Idiocracy is returning to theaters this upcoming Labor Day with Extract, his latest comedy. Another ode to the working man, Extract stars Jason Bateman as an owner of a flower-extract plant owner. Somewhat like Peter Gibbons in Office Space, he "sees his life crumbling around him."
A Mike Judge theatrical release is long overdue, and certainly welcome. Even if this does echo the structure of Office Space, (Bateman even has a crazy friend who tries to loosen him up, played by Ben Affleck), this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Let's face it, Office Space is hilarious, and if anyone is to make a movie that might use the copy machine a bit too much in its creation, it might as well be Mike Judge. Plus, Jason Bateman, who fit perfectly into the unfortunate shoes of Michael Bluth in Arrested Development, is sure to be great here. Hell, even Ben Affleck's own return to being in front of the camera looks promising.
What do you think? Will you see Extract? Does Mike Judge still have the funny in him to pull off another Office Space like success?
Extract opens September 4, 2009. It stars Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis, Kristen Wiig, J.K Simmons, and Ben Affleck.
