Two new releases this weekend for fans of comedy. On one end we’ve got Kick-Ass which has been receiving some pretty positive buzz as well as the star-studded comedy, Death at a Funeral.
Based off of the buzz and the marketing of Kick-Ass, I’m betting this semi-superhero flick will be raking it in this weekend. Critics seem to be pretty keen on this one, but for further proof, check out Jeff Bayer’s review of the film, and Morrow McLaughlin's as well.
Death at a Funeral is a remake of a British comedy by the same name. Although it’s a shame to see such a great movie get an American makeover only three years after its initial release, my bet is that studio execs aren’t counting on many people having seen it. I think the remake will do a lot better than its British counterpart, coming in at number two.
Date Night’s de-throning after last week’s Box office review was embarrassing for me to say the least, but hopefully this weekend, it’ll still get some love, bringing it at number three. It’s fun for what it is and doesn’t pretend to be anything but enjoyable, even if it has caused some debate in our “He Said, She Said” corner…
I’m predicting Titans will still be making an appearance in our top five, but at the number four spot. The big-budget blockbuster’s reviews may finally be getting it down. With some new releases aimed at the same demographic, it doesn’t seem to stand much of a chance.
Finally, we all knew this day would come. I’m betting How to Train Your Dragon’s days are numbered. I think it’ll be rounding out our list this weekend, now that studios are starting to bring out more of their heavy hitters.
Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order).
It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.
My prediction for the weekend of April 16 - 18 …
2. Death at a Funeral
3. Date Night
4. Clash of the Titans
5. How to Train your Dragon
So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
