Is it too soon to start over again? Apparently not for the Spider-Man franchise. Spider-Man 4 is dead. Deadline Hollywood Daily reports that Sam Raimi has pulled out of directing the fourth film. The website says Raimi is out because he couldn't make its summer release date and keep the film's creative integrity. That means Tobey Maguire is gone as well. Sony will now focus on a Summer 2012 reboot from a script by Jamie Vanderbilt with a new director and a new cast. No word yet as to who will be the new web-slinging superhero.
There were rumors that Jake Gyllenhaal was up to replace Maguire in Spider-Man 3. Daniel Radcliffe needs a new franchise. Joseph Gordon-Levitt showed he was willing to do blockbusters with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
Who do you want? Will we be seeing a new villain or one from the first three films? Shouldn't there be a rule that you can't reboot a franchise until at least 10 years pass from the last film in the series?
