Bad Lieutenant director Abel Ferrara is signed on to helm a re-imagining of the famous Robert Louis Stevenson story, "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." Rapper 50 Cent and Forest Whitaker are attached to the project, which will be a contemporary version of the famous story called "Jekyll and Hyde." They are set to play the lead roles in the tale about a doctor whose alter ego is unleashed by a potion.
The film will begin shooting later this summer.
Cheetah Vision Films' Randall Emmett and Glasshouse Pictures' Brett Walsh are going to produce. Luc Roeg, Michael Robinson, and Andrew Orr will executive produce under their U.K company Independent.
Says Luc Roeg about the project: "The combination of such formidable talent in front of and behind the camera will turn this wonderful gothic story into a modern classic for a whole new generation."
This project is a "Strange Case" indeed. 50 Cent acting again? Opposite Forest Whitaker? In a modern makeover of a classic story? Sounds like the ingredients to a disaster of its own, but its too early to judge this unusual concoction. Maybe Whitaker will help Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson bust out an alter ego of his own - that of legitimate acting ability. Scoffing aside, it will be very interesting to see how this one turns out.
